Doctor FAQ
Questions dentists ask before joining.
Everything we are asked most often, answered plainly: what you keep, what is guaranteed, what is not, and what the agreement actually commits you to.
Ownership, Independence & Practice Control8
11Do I keep 100% ownership of my practice?
ChairShare's stated model is that independent practices keep their ownership. ChairShare is not acquiring the dental practices.
12Do I have to change my practice name or brand?
ChairShare is not designed to require practices to surrender their independent identity. Any specific co-branding requirements would be governed by the applicable program materials.
13Who controls clinical decisions?
Clinical decisions remain the responsibility of appropriately licensed clinicians, not ChairShare.
14Does ChairShare tell me what treatment to perform?
ChairShare should not be understood as directing clinical treatment. Treatment decisions remain a matter of professional clinical judgment.
15Does ChairShare tell me whom to hire or fire?
No, ChairShare is not designed to manage the day-to-day employment decisions of an independently owned practice.
16Can I continue using my current lab and vendors?
Unless a particular benefit or service has specific requirements, ChairShare participation should not be assumed to replace all existing vendor relationships.
17Can I sell my practice later?
Yes, the agreement can be transferred to the new owner if the new owner meets the accreditation process. ChairShare will certainly add to the value of your practice.
18Can I participate if I am already part of another dental organization or affiliation?
Potentially, but existing contracts, network obligations, exclusivity provisions and ownership structures by your employers need to be reviewed for compatibility. PE-backed DSOs are not admitted into the program. Doctor-owned DSOs can be admitted.
Guaranteed Income & Economics15
19What is the $625,000 figure?
Current ChairShare materials describe a $125,000 annual economic commitment per qualifying participating office for five years - $625,000 over five years - beginning in 2027. The definitive agreement controls the exact structure, conditions and payment terms.
20Is the $625,000 per doctor or per office?
The program has been presented on a per-qualifying-office basis, not per individual dentist.
21Is that $125,000 every year?
The current program structure contemplates $125,000 annually for five years for a qualifying office, subject to the definitive agreement and continuing eligibility. Example: 10 offices = $1,250,000 per year, or $6,250,000 over five years.
22When does it begin?
Current ChairShare materials contemplate the five-year program beginning in 2027. The definitive agreement should specify the exact commencement date for each office.
23Is the $625,000 guaranteed?
Yes, the five-year amount is guaranteed for qualifying participating offices. Any guarantee is subject to the terms, conditions and continuing eligibility requirements in the definitive agreement.
24What do I have to do to maintain eligibility?
The definitive agreement will identify all continuing requirements, including any participation, credentialing, capacity, compliance or other obligations.
25Can I lose eligibility for the annual payment?
Potentially. If the definitive agreement includes continuing eligibility requirements, failure to satisfy them could affect participation or payment. The signed agreement controls. If you lose your license or credentialing you could lose your annual payment.
26What happens if ChairShare does not generate the expected patient volume?
The contractual economic commitment and projected incremental performance are separate issues. The definitive agreement will state exactly what is guaranteed and what conditions apply regardless of patient volume.
27Where does the money supporting the commitment come from?
Approximately $10 billion in added dental revenue. An initial expansion contract is already in place, representing revenue above participating offices' existing business. ChairShare organizes the added demand and funds staffing and patient expansion needed to turn that opportunity into quality, productive dental care.
28What happens after five years?
No economics beyond the contractual term should be assumed. If ChairShare continues, your agreement could be renewed if you meet the eligibility and credentialing requirements.
29Is the additional $125,000 to $250,000 in annual EBITDA guaranteed?
No. That figure should be treated as a potential incremental economic opportunity, not a guaranteed result.
30Where could the additional profit come from?
Potentially from additional patient volume, increased production, health screenings and more efficient use of existing practice capacity. Actual results depend on each practice's circumstances.
31Could a practice generate more than $250,000 in incremental EBITDA?
Potentially, but no result should be promised unless it is expressly guaranteed in a signed agreement.
32What determines my actual incremental economics?
Factors may include patient volume, available capacity, procedures performed, reimbursement, staffing, hours, operating costs and overall practice efficiency.
33Are financial projections the same as guaranteed payments?
No. Projections, examples and modeled outcomes illustrate potential economics. Only obligations expressly stated in the signed agreement should be treated as contractual guarantees.
Payers & Network Participation11
34What is the payer’s role?
Participating dentists will be required to satisfy applicable network credentialing or accreditation requirements.
35Does MetLife own ChairShare?
No. ChairShare and MetLife are separate organizations.
36Is ChairShare an insurance company?
No. ChairShare is not an insurance company or dental network.
37Does ChairShare decide whether MetLife approves me?
No. MetLife or a third party hired by MetLife determines its provider credentialing/accreditation decisions.
38Does joining ChairShare automatically get me into the MetLife network?
No. Applicable MetLife credentialing or accreditation requirements must still be satisfied.
39What happens if MetLife does not approve me?
If MetLife accreditation is a condition of participation, failure to receive the required approval may prevent an office or clinician from qualifying. The definitive agreement controls.
40What if I am already a MetLife provider?
Existing network participation may simplify some steps, but ChairShare eligibility and any program-specific requirements still need to be confirmed.
41What if I do not currently accept MetLife?
You should review the applicable network participation, reimbursement and credentialing requirements before deciding whether ChairShare is appropriate for your practice.
42Does MetLife guarantee ChairShare's financial commitments?
The ChairShare agreement identifies the party responsible for each financial commitment.
43What reimbursement schedule will my practice receive?
Reimbursement is a critical practice-specific question. Doctors should review the applicable payer fee schedule and network terms before enrolling in the access-point agreement.
44Will joining affect my existing payer contracts?
That depends on your current contracts and the new network terms. Practices should review any potential conflicts, most-favored-nation provisions, exclusivity terms or other contractual effects with their advisors.
Patients & Capacity10
45Where are the additional patients expected to come from?
ChairShare is designed to coordinate patient opportunity through participating programs, payer relationships and network activity. The exact sources and rollout should be confirmed in current program materials.
46How many new patients will my office receive?
Actual volume can vary by market, eligibility, implementation and capacity. Any minimum patient commitment should be relied upon only if it appears in the definitive agreement.
47Is a specific number of patients guaranteed?
A financial commitment should not automatically be interpreted as a patient-volume guarantee. Any patient-volume guarantee must be expressly stated in the signed agreement.
48Can patients choose their dentist?
Yes, patient choice and applicable plan or network rules continue to apply.
49What happens if my office cannot handle additional volume?
Practices should evaluate scheduling, staffing, clinician availability and operatory capacity as volume develops. ChairShare's model is based on productive use of available capacity, not overwhelming a practice.
50What does ChairShare mean by unused capacity?
Unused capacity can include available chairs, operatories, equipment, clinical hours, staff capacity and portions of the schedule that could support additional production.
51My practice is already busy. Why would I need ChairShare?
A busy practice can still have unused capacity at certain times, in particular operatories or through additional clinicians. Each practice should evaluate whether incremental volume can be added profitably.
52Do I need empty chairs to participate?
The ability to accommodate incremental production matters, but capacity can be created in different ways. Specific requirements should be confirmed with ChairShare.
53Will I have to extend office hours?
Not necessarily. The best capacity strategy depends on the individual practice and program requirements.
54Will I have to work nights or weekends?
Not necessarily. The objective is to make existing infrastructure more productive, which may involve scheduling changes or additional clinicians rather than simply requiring the owner to work more hours.
Associates, Staff & Operations12
55Do I personally have to treat all additional patients?
Not necessarily. Other appropriately licensed and credentialed clinicians may be able to provide care, subject to program and payer requirements.
56Do I have to hire another dentist?
Not automatically. That depends on current clinician capacity and expected patient demand.
57Can an associate treat ChairShare patients?
Potentially, provided the associate satisfies all applicable licensing, credentialing, network and program requirements.
58Can ChairShare help me use an underutilized associate more effectively?
That is consistent with the capacity-utilization concept, but actual patient flow and economics will vary by practice.
59How can my staff benefit?
Greater practice productivity may create additional opportunity for the team, and ChairShare is also incorporating programs such as CHAMP that are intended to provide employee-related benefits.
60Will my team need special training?
Some programs may require onboarding, workflow training or clinical protocols. Requirements should be provided before implementation.
61What if I own multiple offices?
Each location should be evaluated separately for program eligibility, capacity and applicable credentialing requirements.
62Does every qualifying location receive its own five-year economic commitment?
The program has been presented on a per-qualifying-office basis. Multi-office owners should obtain written confirmation in the definitive agreements for each participating location.
63Does each office have to apply separately?
Yes, current ChairShare enrollment materials contemplate office-level participation. Multi-office groups should sign up each office individually on the application form provided to you by your representative.
64What if some of my offices qualify and others do not?
Participation may be location-specific. The definitive agreement should identify exactly which legal entities and locations are included.
65Can I add locations later?
Potentially, subject to capacity, eligibility, credentialing and the then-current program terms.
66Will a multi-office group have one agreement or separate agreements?
Separate agreements. Groups should seek a structure that clearly identifies participating entities, locations, payment rights and obligations.
Champ Employee Benefits7
67What is CHAMP?
CHAMP, the Champion Health Plan, is being introduced as an employee-benefit component within the broader ChairShare offering.
68Why is CHAMP part of ChairShare?
The goal is to create potential value for practice employees and employers in addition to the patient-volume and practice-economics components of ChairShare.
69Can CHAMP reduce employer payroll costs?
CHAMP materials describe potential payroll-related savings. Actual results depend on the employer's facts, employee participation, plan design and applicable tax and benefits rules.
70Can employees benefit financially?
CHAMP materials contemplate potential employee benefit and net-pay improvements in qualifying circumstances. Results should be confirmed through an individualized analysis rather than promised universally.
71Is CHAMP free?
ChairShare materials have presented CHAMP as a zero-cost benefit to participating practices. The CHAMP plan documents should be reviewed for exact terms, eligibility and implementation requirements.
72Do I have to participate in CHAMP to participate in ChairShare?
The program has three elements, and yes, all are required to participate.
73Can an office use CHAMP even if it does not get into ChairShare?
The current partnership strategy contemplates continuing to introduce CHAMP to eligible practices even after ChairShare reaches capacity and to practices that do not participate in ChairShare, subject to CHAMP eligibility and terms.
Oral Health First Cancer Screening7
74What is Oral Health First?
Oral Health First is a cancer-screening initiative being introduced within the broader ChairShare program.
75What does the screening involve?
Current ChairShare presentation materials describe a 60-second hygienist swab. Clinical protocols, indications, laboratory processes and follow-up requirements should be confirmed in the current Oral Health First materials.
76What does the screening cost the practice or patient?
$0 cost to the practice or patient, and there is no insurance billing.
77Does ChairShare or Oral Health First control clinical screening decisions?
No, clinicians from a telemedicine company will be responsible for appropriate patient selection, informed consent, clinical protocols and follow-up.
78Is Oral Health First mandatory?
The program has three elements, and yes, all are required to participate.
79Can Oral Health First create additional practice economics?
Yes. The practice receives a net $15 per test, and based on patient volume, there is additional EBITDA. Those figures are projections, not guaranteed outcomes, unless a signed agreement expressly states otherwise.
80Can an office participate in Oral Health First without ChairShare?
The program has three elements, and yes, all are required to participate.
Additional Zero-Cost Benefits4
81Will ChairShare add other benefits over time?
Yes. Current program planning contemplates adding additional zero-cost programs or benefits to the overall ChairShare offering over time.
82Will future benefits automatically cost my practice money?
They are intended to be introduced as zero-cost benefits where described that way, but each new program should be reviewed on its own terms before enrollment.
83Am I automatically enrolled in every future program?
Not necessarily. Eligibility, consent, onboarding and participation requirements may differ by program.
84Will I have to sign separate agreements for additional programs?
Possibly. Programs involving benefits, clinical services, data, reimbursement or third parties may require separate documentation.
Contracts, Term & Termination6
85How long is the ChairShare commitment?
Current materials describe a five-year economic structure. The definitive agreement should specify the actual term, commencement date, renewal provisions and termination rights.
86Can I terminate early?
Yes, the agreements will clearly state termination rights, notice periods, cure rights and the financial consequences of early termination.
87What exactly am I committing to for five years?
Accepting $125,000 per year The agreement will clearly identify participation requirements, capacity commitments, payer/network obligations, reporting, program participation, payment terms and any restrictions.
88What happens if ChairShare breaches the agreement?
The definitive agreement should provide clear remedies, cure periods and enforcement rights. This is an appropriate issue for legal review before signing.
89What happens if my practice is sold during the term?
The agreement should address assignment, change of control, successor obligations and whether the economic commitment follows the location, owner or legal entity.
90What information will ChairShare need from my practice?
Enrollment and ongoing participation may require practice, provider, credentialing, capacity and performance information. The agreement should define what is collected, why it is needed and how it is protected.
Additional Questions Doctors Should Ask12
91This sounds too good to be true. What's the catch?
We know it sounds too good to be true, but there is no catch. Come to the Zoom call and ask us any question that’s not in this FAQ.
92What happens if ChairShare goes out of business?
Like any business, ChairShare cannot guarantee that it will operate forever. One important distinction, however, is that you are not paying ChairShare an upfront membership fee or making a financial investment to participate in the program. Any guarantees and any security, funding arrangements, reserves, letters of credit, successor provisions, or other protections applicable to the program are governed by the final agreements. Those documents, not a sales representative, define exactly what happens and what protections apply under those circumstances.
93Why would an insurance company want to participate?
Improved economics and more patients in the network.
94Why should I join now instead of waiting?
ChairShare is being presented as invitation-only with limited office capacity. Early participation may matter when capacity fills.
95Why is ChairShare capped at 35,000 offices?
Current program planning describes a maximum capacity of 35,000 participating offices. The stated strategy is to concentrate opportunity rather than dilute it across unlimited locations.
96What happens when ChairShare reaches 35,000 offices?
Current partnership planning contemplates closing or limiting additional ChairShare participation while continuing to promote other applicable benefits such as CHAMP Plan and future zero-cost programs.
97Will I have geographic protection?
Any territory, density limit, market protection or exclusivity must be expressly stated in the definitive agreement. Do not assume geographic exclusivity unless it is written.
98Can another ChairShare office be located near me?
Potentially. It is based on market density.
99What if reimbursement is lower than my current fees?
Practices should model the full economics - reimbursement, incremental volume, staffing, variable costs and capacity - before deciding whether participation is financially attractive.
100Can ChairShare change the economics later?
The definitive agreement should specify which terms are fixed, which may change, what notice is required and whether a material change gives the practice a termination right.
101What if the projections are wrong?
Projected incremental EBITDA is not the same as a contractual guarantee. Practices should evaluate downside scenarios and rely on guaranteed obligations only where they are clearly documented.
102What should I review before signing?
Initially, we only ask you to sign the letter of commitment, which is a non-binding document. Once the definitive agreement is available, you would review it before committing your practice to the program. You would also review the terms for CHAMP Plan and Oral Health First, or other programs we may have available.
